So far the hipmobile has been tested on two weekend trips. After the first trip it was apparent that it needed some work to the brakes and a little bit more that the guy at the inspection station had mentioned.

It proofed to be no more than a one nights job to fix with a good help ( read he did the most work) from the son in law. This got the Hipmobile through inspection and the right sticker on the bumper.

Our first trip to a blues festival in south Iceland, proofed to be a cold night one, so the first thing to do was to improve those conditions.
I had checked out the price of foam to insulate the camper with but did not like the price range of what could be found in Iceland. In the light of the krona v the dollar status it was not at all feasible to order some.

So what to do?
On a trip to a hardware store I found the solution. Camping mattresses. They are made of foam. Little bit more dense than the foam I had been offered which proofed to be the right thickness for my needs, light weight and it does not absorb water. It is made to isolate hikers and tent campers from the ground they sleep on.

When I checked there where two types on offer. Blue one and a black one. Taking a week to think was both good and bad. The black one sold out but the blue one was lowered in price. So I bought 7 of them and a can of auto spray glue. That came down to 1/5 of the foam price I had from the specialists shop. It also took me just about half the time I thought it would to install.

To make a long story short. This made all the difference on the next trip we tried out the Hipmobile. I know the weather was slightly better and warmer but early summer in Iceland has been cold even though the weather has been calm and beautiful. You still have to be fully dressed at night and the heat is in the 5°c at night.

Next step will be to start working on the interior design and to cover those shelfs.
